The Captain's Hat is a male hat found in Epic Battle Fantasy 3, 4 and 5 . Its armor counterpart is the Captain's Shirt (and possibly in EBF5, the Hobo Clothes), and its female counterpart is the Pirate Hat. It is heavily associated with Matt, being his headgear of choice in Epic Battle Fantasy 1 and 2, and his default headgear in following games.
Description[]
In EBF3, the Captain's Hat appears as a black pirate hat with white trim and the image of a small skull and crossed swords on the side. Two small white feathers protrude from the back of the hat.
In EBF4, the Captain's Hat was redesigned as a black bicorne hat with a single large feather on the right side and a large skull and crossbones insignia in the middle. Its appearance remained largely the same for EBF5, although its white details became brighter and its feather became noticeably fluffier.
Regardless of appearance, the Captain's Hat provides solid defensive stats, with middling defenses but moderate HP and Evade boosts; while not quite as durable as some other hats (such as the Space Helmet), it's reasonable for the first available piece of equipment. Its most common elemental resistances include Water and Bomb.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]
The Captain's Hat has a decent Defence stat, minor Magic Defence and Evade, and trivial boosts to HP and MP. It increases the power of the Hand Bomb item, giving Matt a decent source of Bomb damage in case Lance's abilities aren't sufficient in that regard.
The Captain's Hat resists Water, up to 50% at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]
The Captain's Hat provides middling Defence and Magic Defence, modest Evade and HP, and two elemental resistances; however, it has no special effects. While balanced, it may be outclassed by more specialized headgear as the game progresses.
The Captain's Hat resists Water and Bomb, with neither becoming an immunity at Level 5.

The Captain's Hat has a fair bit of Defence and Magic Defence along with some Evade and HP, making it a fairly well-balanced headgear. Its most notable trait is its useful ability to increase the odds of inflicting status conditions, which makes it indispensable for male status builds, especially for NoLegs.
The Captain's Hat has Dark and Bomb resistances, but neither becomes an immunity at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Captain's Hat offers middling Defence and Magic Defence, as well as small boosts to Attack, Magic Attack, and Evade. It can occasionally grant Good Luck to the wearer and summon a Matt Doll between turns to greatly buff an ally's Attack while giving them Bless.
The Alt Captain's Hat resists Dark and Water. Neither becomes an immunity at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]
The Captain's Hat is available from the beginning of the game as Matt's default headgear.
