The Cat Ears are a piece of female headgear available in Epic Battle Fantasy 3, 4 and 5. Their armor counterparts are the Cat Costume (in EBF3) and the Maid Outfit (in EBF4 and EBF5), and its flair counterpart is the Cat Tail (in EBF5).

Description[]

The Cat Ears consist of a headband with two pointed cat ears on it. The design has changed slightly in every appearance:

  • In EBF3, they are orange with pink insides.
  • In EBF4, they are black with pink insides.
  • In EBF5, they are black with pink insides and a small tuft of white fur at the base of each ear.

The Cat Ears generally provide a small boost to Defence and Magic Defence, but their best trait is their great increase to Evade and Accuracy. They also resist various status effects, commonly including Curse.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]

The Cat Ears have the best Evade and the second-best Accuracy of any female hat (only beaten by the Skull Hairclip in the latter), but they have no special effects and their defences are among the worst of any female hat. While useful in specific situations, Natalie will generally prefer other headgear for day-to-day use; the Pink Flower has far more Magic Defence and two elemental resistances (although it also has a Fire weakness), while the similarly frail Star Hairclip offers useful boosts to MP, Magic Attack, and Natalie's natural non-elemental spells.

The Cat Ears resist Stun and Death, becoming immune to the former at Level 5. Note that the Death resistance does not prevent Doom from being inflicted.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Cat Ears are quite frail, with the lowest Defence and Magic Defence boosts of any female headgear. However, their Evade is only surpassed by the even frailer Slime Bunny Ears, and they are the only female hat to boost the wearer's Accuracy. While theoretically useful (especially for Anna, who already has above-average Evade), their lack of special effects and meaningful resistances makes them subpar when compared to other options that become available later.

The Cat Ears are resistant to Curse, which becomes an immunity at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

Normal[]

The Cat Ears have poor defenses, being tied with the Royal Crown and the Ninja Chopsticks for the lowest non-zero defensive boost of any female hat. However, they compensate with a fair bit of Evade and Accuracy; among female headgear, they're fourth-best in the former and third-best in the latter. They grant the Good Luck status to the wearer when she Defends herself, and also have a high chance of randomly summoning a Cat Wizard to Heal a random ally.

Although their stats aren't particularly noteworthy and they become available fairly late in the game, the Cat Ears offer some good utility; they allow Anna or Natalie to give herself Good Luck without the Hoop Earrings (which further improves their best stats), and their frequent auto-summon can take some defensive pressure off of the party. If those effects aren't needed, however, the Ninja Chopsticks have even better Accuracy and Evade, while the Ice Shards trade the Accuracy for better defenses and Evade (although not quite as much as the Ninja Chopsticks in terms of the latter).

The Cat Ears resist Curse, Bad Luck, Weaken and Tired. They become immune to all of them at Level 5.

Equip Remix[]

While it won't exactly give them "Nine Lives," the Alt Cat Ears can make the girls feel a little more like NoLegs. Their Defence and Magic Defence are nonexistent, but they have the best Evade and Accuracy of any female hat, as well as a small chance to grant Auto-Revive between turns. They also improve the wearer's capturing chance, which gives them some utility for catching difficult foes.

The Alt Cat Ears are mainly useful for an Evade-focused Target Tank; their auto-status isn't consistent enough to overshadow the Alt Fairy and/or Revive support, but it can still provide a bit of a safety net. Additionally, Anna can combine them with the Alt Ninja Skirt and the Alt Emerald Cyclone for an unorthodox Wind-focused magical attacker, while Natalie can pair them with the Alt Casual Skirt and the Alt Paper Fan in a highly evasive support build. However, NoLegs remains a more effective Target tank overall, thanks to his superior base Evade and access to the Alt Honjo Masamune.

The Alt Cat Ears give their wearer resistance to Curse, Bad Luck, Weaken and Tired. All of them become an immunity at Level 5.
