"Awesome, these new swords just keep getting bigger and bigger! (I need to avoid cleaving my party members in half though.)"
―Matt, Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Berzerker - called the Stone Edge in the first two games - is one of Matt's recurring swords in the Epic Battle Fantasy series.

Description[]

The Stone Edge is a light grey sword with a broad, rounded blade. Greek letters are engraved through the middle of the blade (spelling "berserker baby"), and the hilt is relatively thin and wrapped in brown leather.

In EBF5, the Berzerker looks similar to its previous appearances, but its blade is shinier and slightly thinner. The inscription is gone, and two crossed straps of brown leather are wrapped around the bottom of the blade.

The sword's most recurring traits include a good amount of bulk, particularly for Defence; it often has one of (if not the) best Defence of any sword. It also tends to penalize some of Matt's lesser-used stats, such as Magic Attack or Evade.

Epic Battle Fantasy[]

The Stone Edge gives Matt a little extra Attack, a fair bit of Magic Defence, and a huge boost to Defence at the cost of slightly reducing his Magic Attack. It powers up Quake and Eruption (although only the first is mentioned in its description).

The Stone Edge boasts the best overall bulk of any sword; its Defence is literally higher than the sum total of every other sword (even discounting the ones that lower Defence) and its Magic Defence is only surpassed by the Rune Blade. It also empowers two of Matt's skills, making it fairly effective as a generalist weapon; the Magic Attack penalty is typically negligible unless he needs to make heavy use of Airstrike or Power Metal.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2[]

The Stone Edge is an Earth-based sword with the best Defence and Magic Defence of any sword, but it slightly lowers Matt's Magic Attack and Accuracy while cutting his Evade in half. On the offensive side of things, it has decent Attack, powers up Quake, Eruption, and Iceberg (the latter two to a lesser degree than the first, and left unmentioned in its description), and has the ability to lower enemy Defence with its Unleash.

As in the previous game, the Stone Edge is a good choice for a generalist weapon; it emphasizes Matt's bulk and gives him some versatility with his offensive options by boosting three different skills (although he'll want to stick to Quake unless the target is Earth-resistant). However, the Blizzard trades some bulk and versatility for higher Attack and a Stun-inflicting Unleash, and the Stone Edge's horrible Evade penalty has poor synergy with a Blind strategy, which can be especially problematic against the likes of the Guardian or the Zombie Hydra.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

Normal[]

Among swords, the Berzerker grants the third-highest boosts to Attack, HP, Defence, and Magic Defence, nicely complementing Matt's preferred offense and natural bulkiness. Its pitiful Magic Attack is generally not a problem, but it also has a very high chance to make Matt Tired between turns, which will passively reduce his Accuracy and Evade over time while giving him a makeshift Bio weakness. It counters attacks with Revenge, inflicts Dispel with Weapon-elemental skills, and boosts the power of Non-elemental skills; in Matt's case, that includes Ragnarok and a few shared skills.

The Berzerker can be considered a 'safer' version of the Giant Slayer, having slightly less power in exchange for more bulk and less immediate stat penalties. The Accuracy and Evade drops inflicted by Tired can be mitigated with Accuracy/Evade buffs, Cleanse support, or just rotating Matt in and out of backup to keep the status infliction to a minimum. With that said, the Berzerker faces serious competition from both the Giant Slayer and the Soul Eater - not to mention the offensive builds of other players - due to its situational counter skill and lack of damage-stacking capabilities.

The Berzerker is resistant to Earth, Wind, Weaken, and Tired, becoming immune to the latter two at Level 5. Unfortunately, its Tired resistance will not reduce the risk of it inflicting the status on Matt.

Equip Remix[]

The Alt Berzerker has decent physical bulk, with modest HP and good Defence, but its best stat is its massive Attack. It actually has the highest physical power of any sword in Equip Remix; note that this is only 100%, a far cry from the normal version of the Soul Eater. It sometimes applies Brave between turns, protecting Matt from offensive debuffs and critical hits while raising his own crit chance; combined with the Stagger it can inflict with Weapon-elemental skills (including its Slicing Cyclone counter-attack), this sword is great at dishing out critical hits.

However, the Alt Berzerker lives up to its name and makes Matt go Berserk on every turn. While it further amplifies his damage output, it takes away the player's control over Matt; the sword's non-elemental nature allows him to deal consistent damage to almost all foes, but it also prevents him from exploiting boosting statuses. Since Berserker builds are not as useful as they were in earlier games, the Alt Berzerker is not actually the best option for an offensive Matt build; swords like The Alt Chopper and the Alt Hyper Drill will prove more reliable, despite their comparatively lower Attack stats.

If the player is fully committed to using the Alt Berzerker, it can be combined with the Alt Spartan Helmet (which also applies Berserk) for more power, bulk, and a makeshift Regen effect; the Alt Horned Helmet is an option for even more power, although it also makes Matt significantly more vulnerable (especially on the magic side of things). However, NoLegs tends to work better for the extremely niche Berserker build, since the Alt Blood Bank gives him on-hit Virus and some useful support effects to keep him alive during his rampage.

The Alt Berzerker is resistant to Earth, Wind, Weaken, and Tired, becoming immune to the latter two at Level 5.
