Nirvana

The Nirvana is a Bio-elemental staff available for Natalie in Epic Battle Fantasy 3 and 4.

Description[]

The Nirvana is a dark red branch whose upper half has been bent (naturally or otherwise) in a sort of a "hook" shape to form the head. The head is decorated with some green leaves and a brown string wrapped around the base of the crook; another leaf is attached to the bottom of the branch to denote a pommel of sorts.

In both of its appearances, the Nirvana resists Earth and Bio while giving Natalie a respectable amount of Magic Attack. It also empowers her Bio attacks and unleashes Vines with weapon-elemental skills.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]

The Nirvana has average Magic Attack for an offensive staff, but Natalie's only option for a Poison attack is the weak Toxic. However, it has a bonus skill in Vines, which deals a moderate amount of damage and can inflict Poison; also, its Unleash applies five stacks of Poison in a single turn, making it more efficient than Toxic.

While the Nirvana's ability to Poison foes is unmatched among staves, it is hampered by its inability to properly make use of its unique assets. It's generally simpler to just use a different elemental staff or one of Natalie's more powerful generalist weapons and cast Toxic when Poison is needed.

The Nirvana resists Earth and Poison, becoming immune to neither at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Nirvana provides a moderate boost to Magic Attack along with great Magic Defence and Accuracy boosts for a staff; it's only outmatched by the Flower Pot and the Oak Staff in the former and by the Road Sign in the latter. Its weapon-elemental attacks are capable of inflicting Poison and unleashing Vines as a bonus skill, applying additional stacks of Poison while dealing some direct damage that benefits from the staff's elemental boost. Between turns, it can cast Bulb Blast; while not too powerful, it may inflict Stagger to set up a party member's next attack.

As one of Natalie's many offensive elemental staves, the Nirvana is a serviceable weapon that should be substituted for the Crystal Staff or the Shooting Star when elementally appropriate. Aside from its Bio damage output, its Magic Defence boost can let Natalie endure magical damage more easily; however, it doesn't do anything for her weak Defence, so the Flower Pot remains a superior defensive choice. Its ability to apply Poison and Stagger gives it some utility as a support weapon that can wear down foes and leave them vulnerable to follow-ups from more offensively-minded party members.

The Nirvana resists Earth, Bio, and Poison, becoming immune to the latter at Level 5.

Trivia[]

EBF1 Shop 1

A Nirvana-like staff visible beneath the table on Epic Battle Fantasy's first shop screen

  • In Indian religions, "Nirvana" refers to a state of spiritual peace often attained by letting go of one's worldly attachments.
  • A staff resembling the Nirvana (with orange leaves and bindings) can be seen under the table in the first shop of Epic Battle Fantasy. In-game, it's largely obscured by the shop interface, but it can be seen clearly in the Gallery.
