Red Jacket and Mage Hat

Matt & Lance with the Red Jacket.

The Red Jacket is a male armor available in Epic Battle Fantasy 3 and 4. Its hat counterpart is the Mage Hat.

Description[]

The Red Jacket is (as the name suggests) a red jacket with golden trim. It has a pocket on either side of the chest and three small red straps across each sleeve; one on the shoulder and two near the cuff. Golden buttons line the right edge of the jacket, with more on the pockets and sleeve straps.

The Red Jacket also comes with a white undershirt, dark red pants and shoes, a dark brown strap across the chest, and a dark red neckerchief with golden trim. If worn by Matt, the neckerchief gains two trailing ends with golden symbols resembling the head of a trident.

The Red Jacket is usually the most magic-focused armor available to the men of the party, with great Magic Attack and MP; it can also buff the former stat if its wearer takes a powerful blow. It works better with Lance than Matt, due to his superior magic prowess.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]

The Red Jacket has the best Magic Attack, Magic Defence, and MP of any male armor; on the other hand, its Evade and Accuracy boosts are incidental, and its Defence is tied with the Ninja Cloak for the worst among male armor. However, that can actually work in its favor; if its wearer suffers a powerful attack, he'll get a decent Magic Attack buff to respond with a stronger spell or heal (possibly both at once if he knows Power Metal.

The Red Jacket is best used with an all-out offensive Lance build, working with high-powered magic guns like the Steel Shark or the Thunder Core to maximize his damage output. Its debuff resistances are situational (although helpful for accentuating its best stats), but its elemental resistance can be put to good use in Volcano Peak and a small portion of Glacier Valley.

The Red Jacket resists Fire, up to 60% at Level 5. It also resists debuffs to Magic Attack and Magic Defence, becoming immune to them when fully upgraded.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Red Jacket emphasizes magic to the exclusion of almost everything else...including its wearer's physical constitution. It has slightly below-average defenses while lowering HP and especially Attack, but its Magic Attack is only matched by the Bone Armor and it has the best MP boost among male armor. It further empowers its wearer's spellcasting by buffing his Magic Attack if he suffers a powerful attack; this effect becomes stronger with forging, maxing out at 30% at Level 5.

As in its previous appearance, the Red Jacket is a better fit for Lance, especially because Matt really doesn't appreciate the Attack loss. Although its stats are almost entirely outclassed by the Bone Armor, it lacks the latter's severe elemental weaknesses and auto-Curse; regardless, a HP penalty and dearth of elemental resistances still makes its wearer rather frail. The Dark Armor is far superior as a Dispel-resistant armor (albeit available much later in the game), trading magical power for extra resistances and entirely superior defensive stats.

The Red Jacket resists Dispel, becoming fully immune to it at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]

The Red Jacket is found in a chest on the southern boardwalks of Rock Lake, atop some rocks in the middle of the screen by a small sand sculpture of a cat.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Red Jacket is found in Ashwood Forest, in the bottom-right chest on the boss screen. The chest is blocked by a tree that can be cut down with The Axe (obtained from a chest behind the Mighty Oak after defeating him).

Trivia[]

EBF2 Shop1

The Red Jacket being worn by the Red Mage in Epic Battle Fantasy 2

  • The Red Jacket is based on the outfit of the Red Mage who appears in Brawl Royale and Epic Battle Fantasy 2. It seems to be specifically based on the Brawl Royale version - as its EBF2 appearance adds a second strap across the chest - but it lacks the trailing cape/duster.
